Meeting on a dating app is now the most successful way of finding the person who will become your husband or wife but it also carries greater risks of an early break-up than more traditional forms of matchmaking.
Couples who first met online are six times more likely to divorce in the first three years than those who got together through friends, family and neighbours — the next most usual way of finding a long-term partner.
Researchers for Savanta ComRes, a market research consultancy, who surveyed 2,027 married adults over 30, made no distinction between couples brought together by Tinder and Grindr, seen as hook-up sites, and dating apps such as eharmony.
